Muskegon, Michigan, May 12, 2026 – RENK America, a leading provider of high-performance mobility solutions for tracked military vehicles, announced its role in advancing autonomous capability for the U.S. Army’s Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) through collaboration with BAE Systems and Forterra.
At the core of this advancement is RENK America’s HMPT transmission “drive-by-wire (DBW)” system, which serves as a key enabler for autonomous vehicle operation. The integrated solution enables Forterra’s AutoDrive and maintains the same space claim as the current transmission, only needing to install the plug-and-play upgrade to DBW, ensuring seamless integration without impacting vehicle architecture or requiring significant redesign.
RENK America, through collaboration with BAE Systems, is supporting their rapid capability kit initiative, designed to accelerate the deployment of advanced technologies and enhance mission readiness across the U.S. Army’s vehicle fleet. This effort underscores a shared commitment to delivering scalable, field-ready solutions that meet evolving operational demands.
In addition to AMPV, the drive-by-wire kit has the potential to easily deploy autonomous capability to other platforms powered by RENK America’s HMPT transmission, including the Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV), M109 Paladin, and M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS).
“We’re focused on delivering capability that works in the real world,” said Corey Johnson, CEO of RENK America. “Leveraging what’s already fielded and trusted is how you accelerate without taking unnecessary risk.”
RENK America’s HMPT Transmission is currently fielded across 100% of the U.S. Army’s medium tracked vehicle fleet, providing a trusted foundation for next-generation advancements like autonomous operation.
