CODELAG refers to a marine propulsion configuration that combines diesel-electric propulsion with a gas turbine. Diesel generators produce electrical power for electric motors that drive the propellers or propeller shafts. For operating conditions requiring higher propulsion power, a gas turbine can additionally be integrated into the propulsion system.
The combination of different propulsion technologies allows them to be used according to the respective operating requirements. The diesel-electric part can cover lower to medium power demands, while the gas turbine can provide additional propulsion power. Combined propulsion concepts of this type are particularly used in naval vessels.
