Augsburg, August 12, 2026 – RENK Group AG, a leading provider of drive technology for the military and civilian sectors, is supplying key mechanical components for gas turbine generator sets, which are increasingly used to provide electricity to data centers and AI infrastructures. The product portfolio comprises gearboxes, couplings and clutches for a broad range of gas turbine platforms.
“The energy needs of AI and data centers are not a short-term trend, but are changing the demands on power generation and network stability in structural terms. RENK is well positioned with its product portfolio in the industrial business unit to play a leading role in this growth segment,” said Vice President BU Industry of RENK Group, Carl Philip Pöpel.
One focal point is the provision of components for Siemens Energy gas turbines, which are experiencing high demand in AI structure energy supply, primarily in the U.S., where RENK is a key gearbox supplier. Orders for more than 50 turbo gearboxes have been secured in the past 12 months. The qualification process for additional platforms is underway, and follow-on orders are expected in 2026.
Moreover, RENK’s synchronous clutch couplings enable multiple use of the electricity supply facilities to support grid stability. This synchronous condenser operation of the generator as an instantaneous reserve increases the resilience of the power grid to avoid blackouts due to higher volatility.
“We see that the power generation business is developing into a strategic growth market for the industry business unit – driven by the AI megatrend. This is borne out by the numbers”, said Carl Philip Pöpel.
Order development also reflects this trend, with order intake in this area expected to account for around one-third of the forecast total order backlog for the industry segment in 2026.
