Leading marine solutions: high-performance couplings & clutches

At RENK, we prioritize engineering excellence, reliability, and efficiency to meet the unique demands of the marine industry. Modern marine shaft couplings and clutches are designed to easily decouple the propeller shaft from the drivetrain and support Power Take-Off (PTO), Power Take-In (PTI), and Power Take-Home (PTH) solutions. These characteristics not only reduce emissions and save fuel but also directly contribute to achieving the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), and Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) objectives.

Particularly for vessels equipped with dual propeller systems, the ability to engage one propeller in "wind milling" mode — achieved through the decoupling of the propeller shaft — significantly reduces hydrodynamic resistance. This can have a double-digit impact in lowering emissions.

The KAZ and PSC clutch enable an electric motor (if applicable) to take over propulsion during main engine failure, ensuring the vessel can maneuver to safety. This feature is crucial for emergency situations, allowing ships to reach a safe harbor despite significant propulsion system issues.

For ships with independent dual propulsion systems, the KAZ clutch prevents non-operational drives from rotating due to "wind milling", reducing resistance and ensuring unaffected propulsion efficiency.

In addition: the ability to disconnect the propeller shaft from the main engine reduces wear on the propulsion system components, leading to lower maintenance requirements and costs, and extending the lifespan of the equipment.

Propeller shaft couplings are critical components for modern marine propulsion systems, impacting the performance, reliability, and operational efficiency of vessels.
With our decades of experience in engineering and manufacturing marine graded products, paired with top-class CNC machines and metrological equipment, we stand for highest reliability and degree of efficiency to support your goal: maximizing your uptime, increasing fuel efficiency, sailing the sea without worries.
