Our technologies for your demands
Wheels for military vehicles are specially designed for extreme conditions and differ fundamentally from civilian products in terms of their robustness, service life, and special safety technologies, such as run-flat features. They are intended to guarantee survivability and mobility even under fire or in rough terrain.
Test rigs for military wheels are therefore primarily used for performance testing under heavy loads, with smooth running and driving comfort being of secondary importance:
- Time- and dynamic load-controlled test runs in accordance with ECE R54 test procedure for pneumatic tires
- Driving simulation with steering movements
- Run-flat capability tests (ballistic resistance)
- Rough road testing
- Traction measurements
In addition to testing wheels and tires, tracked vehicles Tracked vehicles A tracked vehicle is a vehicle that moves on tracks rather than wheels, typically used for rough terrain. ' running and support rollers can also be tested.
Robust test rig design for maximum performance
Just as wheels for military vehicles are not simply large, test benches for these wheels cannot simply be scaled up. Special equipment is required to handle these gigantic wheels reliably. The high dynamic load applied during testing by the test bench and the wheel requires very sophisticated test bench structures. This ensures that the actual testing task remains the focus, even with these dimensions.
Bringing the road into the lab
The drum diameter has a significant influence on the validity of the test results. Drums with a large diameter are preferred in order to enable the most realistic resistance behavior of the tire possible. RENK wheel and tire test rigs can be equipped with different drum diameters according to customer specifications.
On request, several test stations with different roller diameters can even be implemented (the test rig shown in the graphic is equipped with a 1.7 m standard drum and an additional 4 m drum).
For bad route investigations, the drums can be equipped with different road surfaces or impact cleats.
To the limits
RENK wheel and tire test rigs enable testing to the limit and beyond. While safety restrictions in field trials often prevent testing under extreme driving conditions, test specimens on the test rig can be tested to their design limits or even beyond. A special multiaxial pick-up for applying forces and moments in all three planes of space offers almost unlimited loading possibilities. A wide variety of operating conditions up to component failure can be simulated.
And this is done with absolute safety and reproducibility.
